Orville Robert Armstrong was born to Clayton Powell and Virginia Backus Armstrong in Greenville, Tennessee on August 15,1953. He was educated in the Hawkins County Public School System. He is employed by Armstrong Machine Works, Inc. in Rogersville.
Brother Armstrong married Geraldine Hughes on September 2, 1972. Orville and Geraldine have two children, Orville Brian Armstrong (wife Lori Hurd) and Laura Armstrong Hicks (husband Gary Wayne Hicks, Jr.) They also have two grandchildren (Kayson Brian and Connor Allen Armstrong.) Brother Armstrong is a member of Rogersville United Methodist Church.
Brother Armstrong was raised a Master Mason on February 1, 1975 in Overton Lodge No. 5 in Rogersville and served as Worshipful Master in 1986. Companion Armstrong was exalted in Church Hill Chapter No. 238 in 1993 and served as Excellent High Priest in 2000. He received the Order of High Priesthood in 2000.
He was Greeted in Kingsport Council No. 117 in 1993 where he served as Illustrious Master in 1999. He received the Order of the Silver Trowel in 1999.
Sir Knight Armstrong was Knighted in Kingsport Commandery No. 33 in 1993 where he served as Commander in 1998. He was made a member of Knight Crusader of the Cross in 1998.
He is a member of the Royal Order of Scotland and the Northeast Tennessee York Rite College No. 153. He received the Order of the Purple Cross and K.Y.C.H. in 2004. He received the Scottish Rite Degrees in Knoxville Consistory in 1975. He was decorated K.C.C.H. in 2005.
