Paul Lincoln Phillips was born November 20, 1934, at Gainesboro, Tennessee, the son of the late Rev. and Mrs. E.A. Phillips. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Lambuth University in Jackson, Tennessee and Bachelor of Divinity and Master of Divinity Degrees from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. Brother Phillips served for over 42 years as a United Methodist minister in the Memphis Conference of the United Methodist Church, serving United Methodist Churches in Western Kentucky and Western Tennessee. He comes from a family of United Methodist ministers, his father and both brothers having served for a number of years as ministers in the United Methodist church. Brother Phillips retired from the active ministry December 31, 1996.
He has served as chaplain of the Scottish Rite Bodies in Memphis. Brother Phillips was raised a Master Mason in St. John’s Lodge No. 332 on March 29, 1956, and served as Worshipful Master in 1981. He was exalted in Rosemark Chapter No.225, Royal Arch Masons on October 23, 1969 and served as Excellent High Priest in 2000. He was greeted in Rosemark Council No. 131 on October 24, 1969 and served as Illustrious Master in 2002. He was knighted in Memphis Commandery No.4 on October 25, 1969 and later became a charter member of Rosemark Commandery No.39 and served as Eminent Commander in 1999. Brother Phillips received the Scottish Rite Degrees in November of 1970. In 1997 he was named a 33rd degree Inspector Honorary General. Brother Phillips has done extensive ritualistic work in the Blue Lodge, York Rite and Scottish Rite. In addition, he has conducted more than 75 Masonic funerals.
Brother Phillips is a member of the Royal Order of Scotland, Knight Masons, Knight Crusaders of the Cross, Masonic Veterans Association, Tennessee Lodge of research, Tennessee Priory No.15, Red Cross of Constantine and Societas Rosicrucian. He received the Order of High Priesthood on March 26, 2001, and the order of the Silver Trowel on March 25, 2002. He is governor of York Rite College 141. Brother Phillips is also a member of Al Chymia Shrine and Jackson Chapter No.85, Order of the Eastern Star.
Brother Phillips married Kathleen Allen of Jackson, Tennessee on August 30, 1958 and are parents of one son, Paul Allen Phillips. They are also the Grandparents of one grandson, Christopher Allen Phillips.
Brother Phillips has served as Grand Chaplain of the Grand Lodge, Grand Chaplin of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons, Grand Chaplin Of Cryptic Masons and Grand Prelate of the Grand Commandery.
Brother Phillips was elected Junior Grand Warden on March 28, 2002, advanced each year, being elected Most Worshipful Grand Master, Free and Accepted Masons of Tennessee on March 24, 2005.
